From Runway ---> to Celeb way

La Dita Bella!!
What this hard to wear Rodarte dress need was what Dita Von Teese epitomizes, Old Hollywood glamour. She saved this dress from looking too ghastly with her vibrant red lips & nails, swaps the frumpy shoes for schnazzy beaded ones.
The material just hangs on the model but on Dita it floats, adding to the dreamy nostalgic appeal for a bygone era.

Rawrrrr!!!! Supermodel Vs. Supermodel

This Versace dress is nice on Jessica Stam, but when I saw Daria wearing it offstage, I immediately heard that Barracuda song in my head (and it's a good thing!)

Daria rocks the dress like a a freakin carnivorous animal, she grunged up the glam with the leather bomber, black leggings and the 'messy', (not unwashed & dirty), undone hair.

She's totally on top of the edgy supermodel style, ( ie. Kate Moss) like a fat kid on cake.

Hhhmmm....to begin with I'm not a big fan of this Luca Luca dress, it's ok but it's not great.

Although I'm glad that Rosario threw away the granny grey tights, this dress is not working for her. The colour washes her out, and in combination with that studio 54 eye makeup, that flat hair, (maybe it's her square jawline + bangs) and the neckline, I would have to conclude that all together it makes her look quite drag-alicious!

So I'm not usually a fan of her everyday style, but when Mischa dresses good, she dresses very very good!

Since she can't really act, she really should just stick to modelling because she really knows how to wear clothes, (when she's not dressing herself).

I loved this Dior dress when I saw it on the runway but it doesn't exactly scream wearable, that shade of green could make the wrong person look barftastic!

But on Mischa it sets her complexion off perfectly and she looks better than the model in this dress, it gives her a vivacity and gives the right oomph to her figure over the model's.

Doesn't this look like a ginormous garbage bag wrapped & tied around Victoria Traina?
Style.com listed this look as the 2nd BEST look of the week. Considering they consistently feature questionable looks on their weekly top ten, I'm really beginning to lose faith in those at Style.com & Vogue (US), after it was Andre Leon Talley himself who was behind Jennifer Hudson's cringe inducing Oscar outfit.

Okay, so I will give her some props for wearing Christian Lacroix, not many can actually pull him off. But......when you are as petite as Victoria Traina, you shouldn't be wearing this dress in the first place, she looks like she being swallowed up by fabric and oh look, here pops out an arm, a head there, and oh there peeps out her toes.

Sigh...and to point out the VERY obvious, if you're going to wear something that busy, then keep all else understated, (leopard print shoes?), despite the drab shade of the dress.

And what is going on with that hair? okay yes it's understated but understated doesn't mean let your 5 year old cousin do your hair.

Vogue-ing it @ the 2007 Oscars

Who was En Vogue:

Nicole Kidman: (Balenciaga)

How does she do it? Bright blood red, big draping bow, and yet it looks tres elegante and effortless.
Kudos to Nicole for her facile yet showstopping chic-ness.

Love the matching lipstick and the hair.

Cate Blanchett : (Armani Prive)

I think Cate was the only attendee that actually was able to wear the metallic/futuristic trend without it wearing her, she still makes it look very 'Cate'. What I like about her, apart from her acting skills, is that she takes fashion risks, and consistnetly wears the avant garde with her immaculate sophistication.

Helen Mirren: (Christian Lacroix)

Grand Dame......you look lovely and exponentially better than many of the women in attendance that are half your age ( see below - Sans Vogue). She is positively glowing.

Bonus points for pulling of Lacroix, his clothes aren't an easy wear:

Talent + beauty that has defied the trial of time....do you not want to retch in envy?

Maggie Gyllenhaal: (Proenza Schouler)

Can you believe this woman just had a baby? I LOVE this dress, love the single shoulder strap and love the train ( it's not overdone and is just long enough). This dress is perfect for Maggie, the blue compliments her eye and skin tone beautifully.

Also an award of applause for her understated updo. I immensely dislike the plethora of prom worthy updos that show up at the Oscars....seriously it's ok if you're a high schooler, you're young, what do you know about sophistication) but post high school there is no excuse for Chia pet poof dos.

P.S. I adore the feathered train.

Reese Witherspoon: (Nina Ricci by Olivier Theyskens)

Note to Reese: You have never looked better ever since you dropped that deadweight husband of yours. So swipe off that sad look I can see in your eyes because it's for the better.

The dress....Clearly, Oliver Theyskens is on his way to putting Nina Ricci back on the haute fashion radar, which delights me as a fan of Olivier. What makes this dress so spectacular is the hem, which ( don't make fun, I'm serious here) reminds of the ends of a flower petal, I like how it's graduated into lighter colours which adds to the flower effect.

Who was Sans Vogue:

Jennifer Hudson: (Oscar de la Renta)

Why? Why? Why?!! This is your first Oscar win, it was likely that you were going to win, therefore you knew that this night would be a night to remember as the cliche goes, and you will probably treasure pictures of this pivotal moment in your life.

In sum, you needed a timeless look, something that wouldn't make you recoil with regret when you look back years from now at that tinfoil shrug with wings for a collar that make you look ready to launch.

P.S. Putting your hands in your pockets doesn't make you cool, take them out!

Kirsten Dunst: (Chanel Haute Couture)

Where do I begin? The hair? (although I prefer understated hair for a formal look, this is not even close.....flat+stringy = dirtaaay). The dress? aside from the colour totally washing you out (Kirsten, did you not learn from Kate Hudson's Oscar dress a few years ago, that this slate/blue/grey is not flattering?)

Surprisingly, this dress was Chanel. From the waist down, it looks like it belongs in Vegas, and I don't even think Celine Dion would wear it for one of her concerts. Actually come to think of it, this dress is totally Jackie Collins, not a girl in her twenties. All I can ask is, did you actually look in the mirror before you left home?

Anne Hathaway: (Valentino)

I'll credit her endeavors to always look elegant and how she's not one of those disasterous alcoholic/private parts flashing/sex tape starring/drugged out young celebrities. And I do love her teardrop pearl earrings.

However she is trying way too hard here, this dress would look better on Barbie (pre-Mattel vintage). I do adore femme fashion, but the lace + massive bow is overdone...yeah, we get the point, you REALLY want to SCREAM 'LOOK at meeeee, I am sooooo CLASSSY'

Eva Green:(Givenchy)

Yuck, yuck, yuckity yuck. Hate the poof of hair extensions resting on top of her head, haha, look at her expression, this girl is so serious here, she's trying too hard to smolder us with her racoon eyes (fine for the club, but the Oscars?). The sleeves are begging to be ripped off, hate the barfed up oatmeal colour and the fabric makes for an unflattering shape.

Suzanne Arkin

Umm... remember what I was saying about the Oscars not being prom? Then why is this woman (I don't care if you're not a celebrity / up for an award) wearing something that belongs in a JUNIOR high school prom? I wouldn't even have worn this to my senior high school prom.

The Horror, the Horror:

Merly Streep: (Prada)

It really, deeply, pains me to put one of my favourite actresses on here... but even ignoring that sack of a dress, there's the gaudy shoes, that necklace is completely inappropriate and then her self-styled hair.

I get her game plan, she must be trying to trick us into thinking she's so far from that haute couture maven she plays in her nomintated role, that we're convinced what an incredible feat it was for her to vogue it up. Yeah, that's it, that's exactly what she's doing! Sneaky, sly thing you are.

Gwen Stefani: (Chanel Couture)

Whoooaa! Talk about sensory overload here; we have sequins, tulle, pleather (?-->belt), flowers.....It's a good thing Coco Chanel is dead because she would be livid as a banshee if saw this. Seeing Gwen in a dress like this definitely explains the bags she designs.

On a brighter note, at least she lost that cheap wig she's been sporting these days.

Faye Dunaway: (J Mendel)

Where is that stylish woman that inspired so many in Bonnie & Clyde?
Here she looks part witch, part clown...and your age in NO excuse for looking so frumpy, please seek Helen Mirren for advice. Btw, is she balding?

Sally Kirkland: (Levi Okunov)
She looks like a caped crusader at a gay pride parade. This woman is like magical!!

I am saving this picture for whenever I have an insufferable, shitty day like today, I will always have something to induce an explosion of hysterical, on the floor, rolling over, stomach searing, fit of laughter. Yes....this woman will be my saving grace.

What makes her even more ridiculous than the dress itself, is her zany way of wearing it, look at her poses, she's eating this shit up, this is a MATURE, OLD woman acting like a kid in his first Halloween costume.
